The Mothers’ Union

The Mothers’ Union is a Christian organisation promoting the well-being of families worldwide. We try to achieve this by developing prayers and spiritual growth; studying and reflecting on family life, marriage and their place in society; and resourcing our members to take action to improve conditions for families in the communities in which they live.

The Mothers’ Union celebrated its 125th anniversary in 2001!  In 1996, the MU branch here in Winscombe was restarted after a lapse of 27 years, when fifteen of us were admitted as members of the Mothers’ Union and branch. We now have around twenty members.

Branch meetings are usually held on the first Wednesday of the month at 2.00 pm in St James’s Church Hall. We also have opportunities to link up with other branches in the Deanery and to be represented at Deanery, Archdeaconry and Diocesan meetings.

We have a “Wave of Prayer” linking dioceses throughout the year and throughout the world.  For example, Bath and Wells Mothers’ Union is linked with the Diocese of Niassa and Lebombo in Mozambique, Kampala in Uganda and Kabba in Nigeria during the first five days in February.

A warm welcome to anyone who would like to join us.
